Seaton Carew Golf Club, once known as the Durham and Yorkshire Club, is woven deeply into the fabric of British golfing history. Born on the edge of the North Sea in the late 19th century, it emerged at a time when the game itself was still finding its footing beyond Scotland. As the first golf club established in the counties of Durham and Yorkshire, and now recognised as the tenth-oldest course in England, Seaton Carew has long stood as a quiet pioneer—shaped as much by wind and tide as by tradition.

In its early years, the club drew many of its members from the region’s industrial heartland—shipbuilders, steelmakers, and engineers who found respite from smoke and machinery on the open links.
